About the DesignerAlison has been creating designs for gardens in England and southern Europe for many years, developing a contemporary style of elegant simplicity. Her designs are characterised by their confident structure, harmonising house and garden. This is complemented by natural landscaping materials - oak and natural stone where possible. The whole is blended with a carefully selected plants, creating a strong and distinctive atmosphere. She trained in London in the mid nineties after a period living in SW France. Rapidly achieving acceptance by the Society of Garden Designers she went on to develop a wide portfolio of successful projects from large country gardens to chic city courtyards chiefly in England and France. Trees are of great importance to Alison, as are native species of plants especially as hedges. These form part of her gardens wherever possible and appropriate. Increasingly inspired by natural landscapes and vernacular building styles, she aims to create a subtle interplay between garden and the surrounding countryside. Her work has featured in many publications, including, most recently The Book of Garden Plans edited by Andrew Wilson and published by Mitchell Beazley.
